Roston Chase’s maiden Test ton draws second Test.The third Test starts on August 9 and will be a grueling contest between both sides.
The second Test between India and West Indies at Sabina Park Kingston ended in a draw. West Indies put up a much improved batting performance which helped them in salvaging a much needed draw on Day Five of the second Test. Roston Chase stood tall in the final day of the second Test for his side which enabled them a draw. He also scored his maiden Test hundred and was unbeaten when the match ended at 137 not out. He was also adjudged the Man of the Match. He along with Shane Dorwich and later, Jason Holder, struck vital fifties to escape from a likely defeat in this Test.
India still lead the series 1-0 with two games renaming.

On Day One of the second Test, Holder won the toss and elected to bat first but the decision backfired for his side as they got bundled out for 196, thanks to another five-for from India’s off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin had taken a five-for in the second innings of the first Test as well. India reached 500 for 9 declared in their first innings which gave them a lead of 304. Rain also played a part in this Test which took away some vital time off the match. Nonetheless, the efforts of a struggling team like West Indies needs to be credited to have hung on the last day to save the Test.
The new heroes for West Indies in this match was Chase Dorwich Jermaine Blackwood and Shannon Gabriel. Chase also had a five-for in India,s first innings and ended the match in style with a big hundred. He stitched important partnerships with Dorwich and Holder in crisis situation as the hosts were 48 for 4 at the start of Day Five.
Dorwich and Chase played aggressively and most importantly did not throw their wickets after getting starts. Blackwood hit twin fifties in this match while Gabriel bowled with a lot of heart in India’s batting and took 2 wickets as well. West Indies captain, Holder, would be delighted with the fight showed by his boys and would be hoping to carry on in the same fashion in the remaining matches. For India, Mohammed Shami and Amit Mishra were the pick of the bowlers as they got two wickets each but the former was a little expensive. Ashwin and Ishant Sharma got a wicket too but the home team’s batsmen played them smartly. Umesh Yadav remained wicketless. Virat Kohli also credited the opponent team’s batsmen for not giving away the match and would hope for a better show by both the teams in the third Test.
The home team’s resilience won everyone’s hearts on Day Five even though India were on top for most part of the match. India, on the other hand, have never won two Tests in a row in the Caribbean. India still have quiet a few positives to look at from this Test. KL Rahul, playing in place of an injured Murali Vijay, scored his third Test hundred while Ajinkya Rahane reached his seventh Test ton, fifth in overseas. Shami, Mishra and Ashwin were among wickets but were outdone by a young battling line-up of the home team on the decisive day.
The third Test starts on August 9 and will be a grueling contest between both sides.
